FAI_100_km_DreieckThe 100 km FAI triangle is the sprint discipline of the gliding athletics. It is very different from all other record categories: it is so simple, that you can optimize it so much that it can be completed almost perfectly according to the MacCready rules. Gliding tactics to deal with risk management are unimportant. Additionally, all record categories allow for a max difference between start and finish altitude of 1000m. This bonus results in a significant boost in the average speed, as it can be used for a final glide which doesn’t have to be “earned” by thermaling. In the 100km triangle, this represents a relatively large part of the flight, and thus has a much larger impact than on the larger triangles and out-and-return categories.
